Once upon a time there was this guy who lived by testing each and every limit. Smoked like a broken boiler, drunk like a fish, ate junk like a garbage truck and went against all medical odds. Eventually his lifestyle caught up with him and he found himself in a hospital with 5 clogged arteries, and blood levels totally off the charts. As his doctor was getting ready to start treatment a well dressed dude shows up in his office and suggests a clever scheme. This company will issue life insurance on his patient with the doctor as beneficiary. All legal. Well, it sounds crazy, sais the doc, but if it’s legal who am I to question it. Go for it.
How well can a patient be treated when the doctor has a vested interest in his demise ?
Of course the person responsible for this situation is the patient who provoked death every single minute of his life. But the system that allows those who treat or lend, to bet against those who are treated or borrow, stinks like a fish that died before the credit default swaps were invented.
